AP Physics Instructors:
Dr. Frank Lu is an experienced teacher with a PhD in Physics & Artificial Intelligence. He received degrees from Fudan University, University of Maryland, and Duke University. Dr. Lu has taught college students at UMBC (MD), and American University (DC). He has also tutored high school students from TJ, Oakton, McLean, Langley, and private schools in Northern Virginia.
Dr. Lu’s unique instructional method and interactive teaching style includes problem solving practice and individualized teaching of key concepts in the small group setting, enabling students to apply Physics concepts to real life problems and building a solid foundation for the rigorous AP Physics exam.
Many of his students have received excellent scores in AP Physics (5) and SAT Physics (750 – 800). 86-90% of his students have received solid A’s in their AP Physics classes.
From 2014 to 2023, Dr. Lu’s AP and SAT Physics students have updated us on their college admissions. Many got into top schools such as Harvard, Stanford, Yale, Columbia, Brown, Carnegie Mellon, U of Chicago, U Penn, Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt, Cornell, Georgetown, NYU, Purdue, UIUC, U Michigan, UVA, V Tech, etc.
AP Physics Physics Instructor Dr. Luzader
Dr. Luzader is an experienced instructor who holds master’s degrees and a PhD in Physics. She received degrees from Northeastern University, and University of Maryland. Dr. D. has more than 23 years of teaching college-level Physics at a State University in Maryland. She has also conducted Physics research with CERN (European Nuclear Research Center, Geneva, Switzerland), and the University of Maryland. She enjoys teaching and tutoring AP Physics to high school students both during the school year and especially in the summer. She has joined Oakton Academy’s AP Physics teaching team since 2019. She is very excited about teaching the summer AP Physics at Oakton Academy.
A student from TJHSST said: “Thank you Dr. Lu for providing this summer AP Physics prep. I started the AP class prepared with a solid foundation of fundamental concepts. While my other classmates began to drop and change to Honors Physics, I was able to thrive and achieved an A. I want to thank you for your teaching…..” – A former TJ student currently attending Columbia University
A student from Langley HS commented: “This AP Physics class was the only one I’ve taken in which I did not waste any time during the class. Everything Dr. Lu taught helped me learn and understand AP Physics. I received A and also got a 5 for for the AP Physics exam, and 770 for SAT.” – John C
A student from Oakton HS shared that: “The class helped me understand the difficult concept in Physics. Each week, we brought challenging questions and problems to class, and learned together as a group with Dr. Lu’s strategy, coaching, and guidance. I got an A in my AP Physics class. I am happy with my progress and can’t believe how much I’ve learned.” – Alex W
